La Porta Santa:

Al pellegrinaggio si accompagna il segno della Porta Santa, essa evoca il passaggio che ogni Cristiano ѐ chiamato a compiere dal peccato alla grazia. Gesù ha detto: ‘Io sono la porta’ (Gv 10.7), per indicare che nessuno può avere accesso al Padre se non per mezzo suo. Questa designazione che Gesù fa di se stesso attest ache Egli solo ѐ il Salvatore inviato dal Padre. L’indicazione della porta richiama ogni credente ad attraversare la soglia. Passare per quella porta significa confessare che Gesù Cristo ѐ il Signore, rinvigorendo la fede in lui per vivere la vita nuova che Egli ci ha donato. Gesù Cristo ѐ il volto della misericordia del Padre e l’architrave che sorregge la vita della Chiesa ѐ la misericordia. Chiunque entrerà attraversando la Porta santa della Misericordia potrà sperimentare l’amore di Dio che consola, che perdona e dona speranza.

The Holy Door:

Pilgrimage is accompanied by the symbol of the Holy Door, which evokes the passage every Christian is called to make—from sin to grace. Jesus said, “I am the door” (John 10:7), to indicate that no one can come to the Father except through Him. This statement by Jesus affirms that He alone is the Savior sent by the Father.

The image of the door calls every believer to cross the threshold. To pass through that door means to confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to strengthen one’s faith in Him, and to live the new life He has given us. Jesus Christ is the face of the Father’s mercy**, and the **foundation that upholds the life of the Church is mercy.

Whoever enters through the Holy Door of Mercy will be able to experience the love of God—a love that consoles, forgives, and gives hope.
